As this strange year puts so many restrictions on our holiday plans, we’d like to offer a few suggestions of streaming movies and TV series based on books you can indulge in within the comfort of your home to expand both your reading and watching lists.
“Alias Grace” (limited series on Netflix); based on the novel by Margaret Atwood
“The Handmaid’s Tale” (3 seasons on Hulu); based on the novel by Margaret Atwood
“Sherlock” (4 seasons on Netflix); based on the stories and novels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
“One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (Netflix); based on the novel by Ken Kesey
There’s also a new version of “Rebecca” on Netflix, based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier, but you might want to see if you can get the disc for the 1940 Academy Award-winning version directed by Alfred Hitchcock, as newer doesn’t necessarily mean better.
