Dr. David Bloch is an optometrist and reading specialist who has used AceReader to help struggling readers overcome their difficulties and become proficient at the task [see blog here].
Engaging in clinical research related to dyslexia, Dr. Bloch has determined that the root cause of the leading reading disorder isn’t what has been accepted until now – that it’s an auditory-based problem where emerging readers can’t process a word’s sound patterns, causing them to misidentify the words or simply guess at what they are.
Instead, Bloch has shown that readers with dyslexia aren’t able to see the visual patterns in words, causing them to mismatch what they see with the sounds they already know. This can lead to several different errors, including additions, omissions, transpositions, and substitutions.
This past month, Dr. Bloch received his 2nd patent for his method of retraining the brain and fostering good reading habits. He employs a series of drills that reprogram how the brain files visual and auditory patterns, and once students practice the drills, their brains learn how to properly file key patterns in words. Many become highly proficient at word recognition in just a few months.
His treatment protocol is changing the science of reading and how it’s taught. You can find out more about the revolutionary Reading Without Limits program on their website: https://www.readingwithoutlimits.com/, or call the office at 760-392-7323 for a complimentary consultation.
